Our club is
situated within the beautiful gardens of Oldway Mansion, former home of the
Singer Sewing Machine family. The bowling green is just off the A3022 Torquay
Road.
Why "Country Club"? In the 1920's Oldway Mansion ceased
to be the private residence of the Singer family. In 1929 The Torbay Country
Club was formed, providing facilities for golf, tennis, squash, and badminton.
Inside the Mansion there was a swimming pool, a bar, café, a lounge, and
billiards.

In
1930 a bowls section was formed, titled 'Torbay Country Bowling Club', with an
opening ceremony on May 3rd performed by Mrs Graham Singer. A second full size
green was constructed and opened in 1931, and in 1932 the club accepted lady
bowlers. After 74 years, in 2004 the club elected their first Lady
President.
